Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing has become more and more popular as a recreational activity. It is a relatively inexpensive sport to get into, you can snowshoe virtually anywhere in any weather and it doesn’t require a great deal of technical skill. If you can walk, you can snowshoe! Many athletes use snowshoeing in the winter as a great low-impact way of keeping in shape and enjoying the great outdoors at the same time.
Snowshoes are still used today by hunters, trappers and other workers in areas where snowmobiles and ATVs cannot maneuver.
This sport debuted in the 1974 Games which were held in Anchorage, Alaska. Since then, snowshoeing has been a key sport in the Arctic Winter Games.
